Thailand: days 7-9

Day 7:
We got up early and grabbed a taxi. We hired the taxi driver to take us to several Buddhist temples and then drop us off across the island at Lamai Beach. If I had to pick a favorite day, this would be it. I loved the mix of culture, sites, and variety.

We first went to Big Buddha, which is the most well-known temples on the island. We went early in the morning before it was too busy and too hot. We had to make sure to cover our shoulders and take our shoes off before visiting the temple site. Although we didn't see many, there were several monks tending to the daily needs of the temple.

Next, we headed a short distance away to Wat Plai Laem. There were multiples temples here, each uniquely constructed and amazing.

From here we headed to Lamai Beach. We first stopped at Grandmother and Grandmother Rock. These rocks are famous because they look like male and female genitals. These rocks were surrounded by other beautiful sites. We then paid $0.25 to walk up to a small lookout...gorgeous!

After this we walked down the beach until we found a place to each lunch. We settled on The Black Pearl. The owner was exceptionally accommodating and friendly. We had the biggest calamari I have ever seen. Coy got super adventurous with fried prawn and I had curry After lunch he offered us a beach chair under an umbrella and towels. We spent the reach of the afternoon in our new favorite spot.

Day 8:
We spent this day at the resort before heading to Fisherman's Village for the evening. Although there wasn't a street market this night it was nice to enjoy the village without the crowds the show up on market nights.
We ate dinner on the beach with our toes in the sand at Starfish & Coffee (although I don't think there was coffee not the menu). We started out with a papaya salad platter. Coy had pad thai wrapped in a scrambled egg and I had crab fried rice. Please ignore our sweat...in case you weren't aware, Thailand is the hottest and most humid place on the planet.

Day 9:
This was our second day trip. Today, we headed to Anthong Marine Park. We stopped first on the outskirts of the island and went snorkeling. Although the water wasn't as clear as Koh Tao it was beautiful and there were some differences in the underwater scenes. After snorkeling we cruised through the 42 separate and uninhabited island. It was breathtaking. These islands were one of my favorite sights of the entire trip. Literally one of the most unreal things I have ever seen.
We made a stop at one of the islands and hiked to the top for a breathtaking view of the islands as well as Emerald Lake. The hike was so steep but despite that and the heat it was AMAZING.
Next we headed to a small fisherman's village for lunch. It was filled with poverty and the only thing on this small island was the restaurant, which was only created to tend to the needs of these tours.
Following lunch we stopped at another small island for kayaking and swimming. Coy and I took this opportunity for a photo shoot and relaxing.

Even though we were exhausted that night we headed back to Maenam Beach and went to John's Garden. The staff were SO sweet. The environment was wonderful...private, romantic, and unique. I don't remember what we got, even though there are pictures below but I know that it was great...an excellent choice!
